The addition of the cycle facilities provides for an improved east-west route and avoids the need for people on bikes to travel along the busier Khyber Pass Road, a parallel corridor to the south. Offices, retail, hospitality, and residential accommodation all front on to Carlton Gore Road with a section of Auckland Domain being a predominant land-use on the northern side of the street.
The adjacent land-uses generate large numbers of people movements through the day, so the project also sought to calm traffic on this busy street and promote walking and cycling as a safe and easy way of moving round. The addition of a raised zebra crossing on Carlton Gore Road and a raised table in a side street George Street have made walking easier, and an upgrade to the existing zebra crossing close to Morgan Street provides prioritisation for people crossing the road and moving around this location on foot.

Frederick Hanstock established Carlton Cycles in Carlton-in-Lindrick, Production dates are not mentioned, but it appears they were built before when.
Carlton Cycles is one of the most deserving bicycle companies to be better known than it is. Carlton Cycles was founded in by a good fellow named Fred Hanstock in Carlton, England, at the tail end of the first great bike boom. Judging from extant photographs, he built bikes that were fairly typical for the era and its unimpressive roads — wide-tired upright roadsters for middle-class transport and pleasure riding. They needed a salesman and he joined on the spot.
Simple as that. Hanstock moved on to concentrate on specialty motorcycles under his own name, with more than a little success. Around the family reorganized the company to focus design and production on racing and club bicycles aimed at the sporting market. With the advent of good public transport and the spread of cars and motorcycles, the utility bike market seemed to stagnate though in England it never entirely vanished as it did in the U. By , a year after their paradigm shift, they offered bicycles with names like: The Flyer, Massed Start, Massed Start Special, Super Python, Continental, and Silver Clubman — all obviously aimed at the sporting market.

Discussion boards hosted by Cycling UK. Quick links. Incompatible Carlton frame number? General cycling advice NOT technical! The lugwork wasn’t particularly startling capella -ish and pretty much all the components are more recent and very poor. I’m pretty certain this is totally incorrect but how a dropout with a frame number found its was onto this bike eludes me.
If Carlton had a load of old dropouts left over from the 30’s when they built this, then they surely wouldn’t have been number stamped?? It almost brings into doubt exactly what model it is. Any thoughts most welcome Thanks. Re: Incompatible Carlton frame number? Looking at the style of the wrap over seat stays the frame may very well be correct with that frame number ie However the fork crown is certainly not that period, more 60’s in style.
